Direct camera view will only work when on the internal network or connected via VPN. Certain cameras may require the installation of a plug-in to access directly (no plugin is necessary for ZoneMinder). For instance, Hikvision cameras require a plugin that is only compatible with Safari on the Mac and Internet Explorer on Windows. Hikvision does offer a separate application to directly access the cameras, however. It can be downloaded from here
